BIRMINGHAM Ala. (December 11, 2019) – Bruce Irwin, M.D., CEO and founder of American Family Care (AFC), the nation’s leading provider of urgent care and accessible primary care, is the winner of a 2019 CEO Award from the Birmingham Business Journal (BBJ). Irwin is recognized for his leadership of a company that has more than 150 employees.
“I hold this award very close to my heart,” explains Dr. Irwin. “Birmingham is not only my home but also home to AFC’s national headquarters. I opened the first AFC clinic in Hoover more than 35 years ago. Today our network of physicians provides care to families across the country, based on the concept I created.”
AFC has 63 corporate-owned clinics, 18 in Birmingham, as well as 153 franchisee-owned clinics in 22 states. All AFC clinics are designed, equipped and staffed to provide accessible primary care, urgent care and minor emergency treatment. Each clinic features a high-tech approach, including digital x-rays, on-site lab testing, state-of-the-art diagnostics and electronic medical records.
Every year, the BBJ honors Birmingham area CEOs who inspire those around them, hold their employees, products and services in high regard and run their companies with integrity.
The BBJ handed out the 2019 CEO awards during a ceremony on Thursday, December 4, at the Grand Bohemian Hotel Mountain Brook, in Birmingham.
